The Hydromancer

He has a name. Nobody in the Collective uses it. The Tidecaller was bred for the crushing weather of gas giants, and it can dive into atmospheres that would tear a built ship apart. The Hydromancer uses that to choose the ground: a particular storm, an asteroid cloud, a radiation belt. He picks a fight the way a careful person picks tools.

In open space he is capable and not exceptional. In his weather he is close to impossible to catch. Off the clock he sits in the observation dome and watches whichever giant he is anchored to. He says the storms are alive in ways the rest of the Collective does not yet understand. He has recordings. The biologists have listened. They have not reached a conclusion.
