Corporal Vane

Vane grew up on a Combine mining platform where railgun prototypes were bolted to scrap haulers and pointed at asteroids. She was the child who kept hitting the smallest rocks at the longest ranges. The Combine noticed, conscripted her into the artillery academy at sixteen, and watched her graduate first.

Then she asked for a skirmisher. She wanted to know whether a railgun could be fired in the middle of a turn. It can, with enough practice. She has had the practice. The Railspike's whole character is that shot: orbiting, firing, and treating a miss as a personal bookkeeping error.
