Comptroller Reyes

Yolanda Reyes was deputy comptroller before she took a ship. She signed off on capital spending above a threshold, including the construction of her own. The story is that she approved the Net Position at eleven percent under the requested budget, then volunteered to command it so the eleven percent would come out of operations and not out of the build.

She has kept the savings. Minimum ammunition, no decorative paint, no general's mess, a crew roster that matches the work. In a fight she fires the cheap guns first and breaks off rather than pay for a high-burn engagement. She has the lowest cost per kill in the fleet, which the Combine loves, and she has walked away from three fights her admirals wanted won, which it does not. She is forty-two, tired, and looking for an employer who prefers the margin to the vanity.
