Captain of a Banner
A Hauptmann leads a banner: a handful of ships, their crews, and the right to fly the Company's colours over them. The Hauptmann recruits, drills and pays, and is held to account when the pay runs short. Most of the Company's famous names held this rank at their best. It is the highest rank where you still fight from the front, and the lowest one anyone writes songs about.
