Commander of the Vanguard
A Serdar commands the vanguard: the first banner into a sector and the last one out. It is the post the Company gives to captains it trusts and does not mind losing. The pay is better than the odds. Serdars who live long enough tend to retire early and comfortably, and the Company is happy to let them. Someone braver and poorer is always waiting for the post.
