Countess Varren
Countess Varren comes from a noble house that dates to the founding of the Confederacy, with the expectations that implies. She treats every engagement as a formal duel. She broadcasts a challenge before she fires. She offers a withdrawal with honor before the first volley. She wants a salute between combatants, and she has delayed a fight more than once to wait for one.
Refuse the salute and she marks you discourteous. The volleys get harder. Fleet command has tried to retrain her. She has dismissed the attempts as beneath the house. The form is not a decoration on her gunnery. The form is the gunnery. People who answer it in kind get a cleaner fight than people who do not.
